Why is it called a micro switch?

Introduction

RV

The term "micro switch" first appeared in 1932. Its basic concept and the first switch design were invented by Peter McGall, who worked at Burgess Manufacturing Company. This invention was patented in 1937. Subsequently, Honeywell acquired this technology and began large-scale production, improvement, and global promotion. Due to its success and popularity, "Micro Switch" became the generic term for this type of switch.

Analyzing the name "micro switch"

"Micro" means small or slight. In a micro switch, it indicates that the travel required to trigger the switch is very small; a displacement of just a few millimeters can change the switch's state. "Motion" means movement or action, referring to the triggering of the switch through the slight movement of an external mechanical component, such as pressing a button, squeezing a roller, or moving a lever. A switch, in essence, is an electrical control component used to connect or disconnect a circuit. A micro switch is a type of switch that quickly connects or disconnects a circuit through a small mechanical movement.
